Overview / Build Diary / Sponsors

Our Hospital is the base for the Tibet Healthcare Project. It is a purpose-built 2 storey structure located in the grounds of the Rokpa's Yushu Tibetan Medical Orphanage School. The Orphanage was established in 1993 and has 200 students aged from 4 to 17, the great majority of whom have lost both parents and had a very difficult life. The Rokpa school provides for free everything the students need such as textbooks, pens, toiletries, all meals and accommodation.

Our hospital facilitates the provision of free medical, dental and optometric care to the students within the Rokpa orphanage school and the poor people within the Yushu Prefecture. It is the only clinic of its kind in Tibet. The clinic also functions as a teaching and research centre for the local Rokpa medical students, supported by western practitioners of medicine, optometry and dentistry.

The ground floor of the hospital is used by the resident school Doctor (and visiting Western Doctors during their voluntary clinics). We are in the process of recruiting a midwife in the coming months to provide advice on women's health, contraception and diet/general health.

The first floor has been sponsored by the Tibet Healthcare Project. There is a spectacle dispensary, 3 optometry clinics, a dental surgery (which is currently being equipped) and a wash room.
